About Us
Kat Costales & Derek Wong
Kat Costales
Hi everyone! My name is Kat and I am a kindergarten teacher from Vancouver, B.C. I completed my undergraduate degree at UBC, and worked as a special education assistant for 6 years before returning to school to complete my Bachelor of Education at SFU. In my personal time, I enjoy the outdoors and love snowboarding and hiking on our beautiful west coast mountains! To be honest, I decided to go back to school to pursue my MET degree because one area of expertise I would like to grow in is the effective use of technology in my classroom. I consider myself a lifelong learner and my goal is to continue to create a richer learning environment for my students. I am currently in my 2nd and 3rd MET course. Teach-back is a method that I use in my very own classroom, especially when giving multiple step instructions to my 5-year-old students! I hope you enjoy your week learning about teach-back and leave our OER with something tangible you can bring to your own life. The potential of teach-back is huge, and we are passionate about sharing that with you! |
Derek Wong
Hi ETEC 522! My name is Derek and I am a Technology Education and Information Technology teacher in Richmond, B.C. I graduated from the Education program at UBC in 2017, and jumped straight into teaching in a secondary school. I currently teach Power Mechanics, Automotive, Woodwork, Applied Technology and Information Technology. I work with technology everyday and strive to incorporate new ways of learning to enrich the experience for my students in any lessons that I can. This is my first MET class, but I have had a fair share of experience with OER and technology related learning through my education and personal passion. Teach-back is a method that I use in my own lessons, especially in the safety aspect of teaching trades education. I hope you enjoy the time you spend on our OER and leave our week's unit with something you can bring to your own life, personal or professional. Teach-back has a lot of potential in its application and is a technique that should be shared amongst all educators. |
